Wild About Us!
A book celebrating differences! And not only differences, but imperfect differences, the kind a child is teased for on the school grounds.
Each of the zoo animals in this book loves who they are. They love their warts (warthog), their big feet (kangaroo), and their ears that stick out (monkey). They don’t think to call others names for being tall and lanky (giraffe), slow (tortoise), or having a big nose (elephant). And pink for a boy is no problem for flamingo, just like being plump for a potbellied pig is no problem either. They love their unique differences; being unique makes them special. Author Karen Beaumont sums it up in her final verse: “We’re glad we’re all different! It would be such a shame, if you came to the zoo, and we all looked the same!”
Wild About Us! is written in light rhyme. Ms. Beaumont breezes through the book, leaving a smile on faces. Each animal jumps off the page in this book. Award-winning artist Janet Stevens illustrates each animal in fun, eager-to-meet-you poses. Animal lovers and artists will enjoy studying each animal’s “large” illustration.
