The Tasty Treat: The Nocturnals (Grow & Read Early Reader, Level 1)
The Nocturnals: The Tasty Treat is an easy-to-read story for children in preschool through first grade. The story is about three animals: a fox, pangolin, and sugar glider, who meet at night and start getting hungry. With short sentences, the story still gives enough details about the three main characters to get an idea of them as individual animals. As a mother reading to her children, I love how the author chose diverse animals for her story! Personally, I had never heard of a pangolin, nor the fruit they crave. In the back of the book, there is more information about each of the animals and the fruit, which is helpful when you have children you are reading to who keep asking questions about the particular thing, and you can’t tell them until you find everything you need at the end! The pictures in the book include cute animations with enticing pages for children and adults. The story includes themes of friendship and problem-solving while staying true to the title and teaching about animals who are nocturnal. My five-year-old found some pages easier than others to read by herself since not every page has just sight words. Overall, a fun and educational book to read for all ages.
