The Line
What is the meaning of a single line? Just a line, drawn in pen or pencil – does it have any meaning at all? This interesting little volume invites you to ponder this question as it leads you through a rather zen-like experience. Following the uncomplicated directions, you are invited to draw a (mostly) continuous line over and around and across page after page, sometimes answering questions such as, “How do you feel?” or “What would you like to investigate in your life?”; but although there are some places for self-reflection such as this, it is not a journaling book. It is really just you, and the line. The concept is deceptively simple, but the mere act of following the line you draw, with your hand to paper, becomes meditative. The line takes on ethereal, philosophical, even transcendental qualities, and a mystifying importance. Once you begin drawing it, can you abandon it? You become tied to its existence. Is the line your voice? Your being? A metaphor for life itself? What can you do with a line? The answers are yours alone to find out.
