The Last Girl on Earth
Li isn’t like everybody else. She follows the rules. She never goes anywhere. Everyone thinks her father is strict, but he’s the only reason she’s still alive. Everyone on the planet is alien. Sixteen years ago, the Abdoloreans destroyed mankind and took over the planet. If it’s discovered what she really is, they’ll destroy her for being human and her family for harboring her. She has her life planned out, starting with passing Assessment so she can join the Forces as an Officer. Then she meets Ryn and begins a relationship that changes everything. To keep her secret safe, she’ll have to take a chance and risk everything.
Alexandra Blogier twists the usual trope by placing a human among aliens, blending science fiction adventure with romance and the struggles of growing up. She’s a seemingly ordinary girl who discovers that her difference is what makes her extraordinary. What it means to be human is explored through Li’s journey to accepting herself for what she is and discovering who she could become. Her family members play a large role as her confidants who give her protection, acceptance, and the courage to embark on experiences she never thought possible. Li and Ryn’s romance is sweet and sincere, keeping the overall tone of the story light and playful. The Last Girl on Earth is a coming-of-age story about first love, family, and friendship.
