Mousling’s Words is the sweet story of a young mouse who lives next door to a restaurant. His family collects words off of the menus, flyers, coupons, etc., and Mouseling is especially drawn to them. As his brothers and sisters leave the mouse nest to make their own lives, Mouseling has no desire to leave because all he wants is words. His aunt lets him know that there are words all over the world, and Mouseling decides to become a collector of words.

The warm illustrations that accompany this gentle and loving ode to words are a perfect compliment and make this book excellent. Little wordsmiths can scour the pages to find all sorts of fun words in Mouseling’s collection. There are more words per page than in standard picture books these days, making this a welcome addition for readers in preschool as well as early elementary grades. Not only is this a book about words but about growing up and finding one’s own way in the world. This is a wonderful picture book on many levels. Highly recommended.
