A Mother Would Know: A Novel
A Mother Would Know if her son’s a killer, wouldn’t she? Recently, Valerie has begun to forget things. Her mother had early onset Alzheimer’s, and she fears that’s what’s in store for her. She lives all alone in a big house, so she decides to ask her son Hudson to move in with her. The neighbors have never really forgiven him for a tragedy that occurred ten years prior, so when a young woman ends up murdered on their street, they are quick to point the finger at Hudson. Valerie begins to reflect on the past and wonders if the rumors could be true. Things might be much worse than Valerie can even imagine.
If you’ve ever been on the fence about whether or not to have children, you probably shouldn’t read this book. This will definitely make you think twice. I know I will be watching my children more closely. It was hard to be completely sympathetic towards Valerie as it seems many of her choices led to the present circumstances. However, overall, this was a fantastic domestic thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.
