Healing Your Body Naturally After Childbirth: The New Mom’s Guide to Navigating the Fourth Trimester
There are tons of books out there about how to have a healthy pregnancy and how to make it through birth, but very few books cover beyond the immediate postpartum period. Jolene Brighten, a naturopathic doctor, wrote Healing Your Body Naturally After Childbirth to provide women and their partners with valuable information regarding the first few months after childbirth, information that is hard to find in other sources. What makes this book especially wonderful is that it discusses topics that are truly hard to find reliable information about. Yes, there is an extensive chapter on breastfeeding, but there are also chapters on physical healing of the nether regions, sex, digestive health, mood (including postpartum depression), and thyroid and adrenal care. Many of these issues are barely touched upon in other books, but Brighten both educates readers and offers ideas for natural techniques that may improve health in these areas.
The book is written in a warm, friendly tone that will invite new mothers in, and readers will love both the remedies and the various recipes for teas, nourishing foods, and self care items. About the only thing that could improve this book would be an index to make it easier to locate specific sections or recipes. This is an important book for any expecting or new parent.
