Spice Kitchen: Healthy Latin and Caribbean Cuisine
The Caribbean has its own special flavor that sets its foods apart from other regions, but there don’t seem to be a great many cookbooks that focus on that area. This book will be an exciting addition to anyone’s cookbook collection, not just because of the dishes, but because Ariel Fox has made healthier versions of the recipes without losing the exciting flavors.
She starts with good lists of what you really need to have on hand in your kitchen for both ingredients and equipment. There is nothing here that is extraordinary or, in this day and age, particularly hard to find. She arranges the one hundred and ten recipes into seven sections, including Mornings, Large Plates and Sides, Desserts, and more. Each recipe has an introductory paragraph, finished amount, an ingredients list, and excellent directions. Mouthwatering photos accompany many of the recipes.
Don’t miss the yummy Raspberry Key-Lime Morning Bread. It’s great! And the Churrasco with Chimichurri is likely to become a favorite. It would be nice if there were nutritional information (calories, carbohydrates, etc.) provided, but there is not. Other than that, this is really a terrific cookbook that will bring great new flavors to your table.
