Twisted (Never After, 4)
Yasmin is a New York socialite who grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth and diamonds on every finger. Having lost her mother at a young age, her entire world has revolved around and been dictated by her father, the renowned leader of the gemstone empire Sultans. But not all that glitters is gold, and as her father’s health declines, his dying wish is to see his legacy secured through Yasmin’s marriage to an eligible suitor of his choice. The abrupt decision to pass Sultans to some untested husband through an arranged marriage doesn’t sit well with Julian, the long-time second to her father. Ever the opportunist, happenstance offers Julian the leverage needed to secure his future through his own arrangement.
Tragically dark, Twisted leans more mafia than fractured fairytale. The story showcases the heartbreaking corruption of the elite, the universal desire for acceptance, and the power of love to forgive all manner of sins. While some of the fairytale inspiration points were well woven into the storyline, the more blatant nods felt forced and didn’t appear developed enough to justify inclusion. Readers should take heed of trigger warnings.
