The Watcher is Lily Gullick, who lives in a new apartment across from another apartment block that is going to be torn down. A neighbor in those apartments marked for destruction ends up murdered. Lily becomes obsessed with the case and with finding out what happened, discovering that sometimes danger is closer than you think and that even your mind can be called into question.
I liked the premise of this book. I’ve always loved Hitchcockian themes, so this one caught my eye. I was a bit put off by it being completely written journal-style from Lily’s point of view. When you only hear from one person, it’s hard to get the full story. I would have liked to hear more about Lily’s past instead of just what happened in a thirty day period. Still, it’s entertaining and keeps you guessing, so it’s not bad.
