The Mermaid Moon
Due to the popularity of the Disney version of The Little Mermaid, young girls are fascinated with the story of love and transformation. The Disney version does whitewash the fairy tale to make a Disney happy ending, as does this book. The premise of the book is that a special moon can allow the mermaid to visit land as long as she returns to the sea by midnight, marrying the Cinderella story with the mermaid myth.
If your little girl is on a mermaid binge, she will love the beautiful illustrations and the friendship between a young girl and the creatures of the sea. The author is also the illustrator of the beautiful pictures featured in the book, particularly the beautiful cave of the mermaid family. Like Disney, the author does not prolong the suspense of the mermaid overstaying her land-based visit. There is a magical surprise that rescues the mermaid from her potentially overstaying predicament.
I love the beauty of this book and also read the original story.
