The Apex Book of World SF 3
International fiction can be a wonderful treat, but not everybody has the wherewithal to fully appreciate being able to eat at this table. Stories from other countries can take one out of their known context and still provide universal truths. The Apex Book of World SF 3 from editor Lavie Tidhar will take one to exotic places in time, Space and geography. It however is not all science fiction with there also being stories that are more fantasy and horror.
The collected stories here are surprisingly a little bland. It is hard to know how to judge these stories from other places. One is also not sure where the stories are going from the onset.
It also has really been mostly the Anglophone world that has been in charge of the technological juggernaut. Some might like the stories of Western Society better than what for some are voices from disparate places. It is fascinating though to venture to new locations and interesting to see what others do with the tropes of science fiction. Many of these stories are profound and we have seen others tackle these subjects before differently. All told, this is a great collection which offers viewpoints from a galaxy that has become more diverse.
