Quarry in the Black
Quarry’s new target is one of his few political ones: a civil rights leader turned campaigner in the early 1970s. Quarry in the Black finds Quarry roped into assassinating Reverend Raymond Wesley Lloyd, working to knock Nixon out of the running. As per his own strict code, Quarry only agrees when he discovers Lloyd may be running drugs using the campaign as a front. Slipping into the campaign undercover, everything goes awry when it comes to light that several groups have put out hits on Lloyd. Quarry’s most dangerous mission gets nearly fatal as he faces down a hate group and drug deals gone violently south, all with the fate of a Presidential election hanging in the balance.
Collins knows how to write fun pulpy adventures. Quarry is in fine form once again. He’s knocking down the bad guys, snagging all the beautiful ladies, and getting the job done in his own inimitable style. At this stage in the Quarry series, you know what you’re getting when you pick one up: adventure, sex, and violence all in a complex, compelling, and suspenseful ride.
