Little Red Rhyming Hood
A little girl speaks everything in rhyme. It isn’t something she tries to do; it is just the way everything comes out of her mouth. Big Brad Wolf gives her a terrible time about it. Her grandmother, trying to cheer her up, makes her a red hoodie she wears everywhere. Every day she goes to her grandmother’s house, and Grandmother tells her about a poetry contest. Little Red practices each day while she is walking, and she doesn’t hear Big Brad Wolf sneak up on her. He jumps out to scare Little Red, and something happens that changes everything for both of them.
Author Sue Fliess has a way with words, meter, rhyme, and humor. These are all things that make for a fun picture book, and this is a really fun one with some good lessons for youngsters well hidden within the text. Illustrator Petros Bouloubasis has filled every page with cute, bright, stylized pictures with lots of fun details to keep little one’s eyes on the pages, searching for all the fun. This is a great twist on a familiar tale. Kids and the adults who read to them will love this book.
