The long anticipated eighth book in the Outlander series, Written in My Heart’s Own Blood returns readers to the world of Outlander, with Jamie and Claire Fraser, their offspring, and family. As George Washington leads his troops from Valley Forge, Jamie Fraser crawls back from being supposedly lost at sea to the usual chaos that surrounds the Fraser household. While in the future, his daughter, Brianna, searches for her kidnapped son, sending her husband, Roger, back in time to chase the boy. But the kidnapper has never left the present and Roger’s absence leaves Brianna vulnerable.

Gabaldon’s skill as a writer to tell a story is nothing short of stunning and Written in My Heart’s Own Blood is nothing less. The only disappointing part about a Diana Gabaldon novel is that you always want to know more, which speaks to the author’s phenomenal storytelling ability, considering that her books can run more than 1,000 pages. Written in My Heart’s Own Blood is no different: the stakes are higher, the wars are longer, and, as with any Gabaldon novel, don’t believe anyone is dead until you see them laying cold and dead with your own eyes.
