Writer to Writer: From Think to Ink
There are over four-hundred thousand books on learning how to write from the classic Brenda Ueland’s If You Want to Write to Gail Carson Levine’s newest book on the craft of writing. Obviously, there are a lot of writers who need to learn more about the art of writing. Writer to Writer, as one would expect, it is a well written book with very useful and creative starter exercises. Rather than depicting writing as a tortuous solitary occupation, Levine urges the prospective writer to have fun while turning out pages.| Indeed I had fun reading this book because of the author’s light hearted approach to the dreaded writing occupation. It is wonderful to find motivation to begin to write and this book provides encouragement and exercises to stimulate creativity. Although Every chapter ends with her command to “save what you write!” This starts out like a cute nag, but ends up becoming cloying. Levine provides incantations to be used to jump start the writing process. The very title puts the reader on par with the published author of this book as she addresses the reader as her equal. A good light hearted and interesting book for the writer or would be writer.
