Wild River
Wild River is a great story of adventure and survival. In this novel, Daniel Redmayne and four other kids are on a rafting trip in Montana, for project future leaders. They are woken in the middle of the night by screams; the dam has failed. The kids are able to reach the top of a cliff, but their counselors don’t make it. They are left stranded in the wilderness with enough food for eleven days. They argue over several things, and the group splits up, but they all travel down river towards a pickup point and safety. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and very suspenseful. The book takes place over seven days, most of which are spent around or on the river. It also has a small section at the end that is about surviving in the wilderness. My favorite part of the book is when the group encounters a mountain lion. I would recommend this book to kids from sixth grade to ninth grade. I would also recommend this book to kids that like adventure stories.
