White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements)
Layla does not live your typical teenage life. First of all she lives with a bunch of gargoyles known as Wardens. Wardens fight off and kill Demons in order to keep all of humanity safe and unaware that Demons DO actually exist. Layla also happens to be half-Warden/ half-Demon which leads to a very complicated life. As if that wasn’t enough, Layla thinks she might be in love with Zayne, the completely off limits but very swoon worthy Warden she’s grown up next to. To make things even more complicated, Layla meets Roth, a demon she knows she shouldn’t trust, yet there’s something about him that makes Layla question everything she ever thought she knew about the war between Demons and Wardens.
White Hot Kiss is one of those books that completely took me by surprise. From the cover to the title I expected it to be some sort of cheesy romance book but I picked it up anyway because I’ve loved everything else that I’ve read by Ms. Armentrout. The characters are well developed, the plot is thoroughly thought out and the surprises, twists and turns are right on target. This first book in The Dark Elements series is a must read for fans of Ms. Armentrout’s and for those wanting an exciting book that leaves you wanting more.
