Where He Left Me: A Novel
Sadie and Felix have only been married for two years when they move back to Felix’s childhood home, Hemlock House, nestled in the North Cascade Mountains. Felix departs for a planetary conference, leaving Sadie alone. Not long after his expected return, Sadie notices someone at the edge of the property. It isn’t long before Sadie realizes her husband has secrets and they’ve come to call. Where He Left Me, Sadie thinks, is with more questions than answers. ||The story had a fairly slow start. It took a while to get engaged with the characters and plot, and even by the end, it was not as thrilling as expected. I ended the book with more questions than answers, so I related to Sadie in that way. I thought growing up in the setting would endear me more to this story, but the author failed to capture the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, especially the Cascades. If you are looking for something to pass your time, then go ahead and pick this book up. It’s a story, but I wouldn’t classify it as thrilling or atmospheric.
