When I’m With You (Because You Are Mine Series)
Lucien and Elise have known one another since young adulthood, when a teenage Elise idolized the older Lucien. When they meet serendipitously and she shoehorns herself into his life as a chef in his restaurant, the sparks fly and Elise’s girlhood crush takes a very adult turn.
Lucien, for his part, has many mistaken beliefs about the kind of woman Elise has become. Along the way to coupledom, both of these characters have some discovery to do, both about themselves and one another, all while they resist and finally succumb to the erotic lure between them.
If you’re a Fifty Shades of Grey fan, either for content or narrative voice, this book is right up your alley. If not, then this might be one to leave on the shelf. Lucien is a hot dom and Elise is a sub who is just realizing her kink. The chemistry between them heats hotter than the kitchens of Lucien’s high-end restaurant. It’s an entertaining story but does lapse into the occasional cliché, and the dialogue can trend toward stilted. But if you’re reading for spank factor over style, this will likely get you there, if you can stay immersed in the story.
Chris Hayden been working at City Book Review since 2012, so that makes him the keeper of knowledge. He manages the office and book reviewers (all 200 of them!), which is no small feat. If you’re looking at the book reviews here, you’re seeing them because he sent the books out for review. Without him, this place would fall apart, because no one else in the office knows how to use the postage machine. Two words: job security.
