Turtle in a Tree
Two dogs, a bulldog wearing a tie and a greyhound wearing a fun, stripy sweater, see something in a tree. The greyhound is quite sure it is a turtle he sees. The bulldog tells the greyhound in no uncertain terms that turtles do not climb trees, and what he is seeing is a squirrel. They argue back and forth, getting louder and LOUDER, until a squirrel jumps out of the tree. Well, that seems to settle the argument… until a turtle drops out of the tree. Was the bulldog right? Was the greyhound wrong? Or were they both a little right and a little wrong? The squirrel, riding on top of the turtle, heads out across the pond. But squirrels don’t go in the water, or do they?
Author and illustrator Neesha Hudson has written a perfectly silly book for the youngest of readers (or listeners). The text is very spare and the illustrations, filled with fun details, tell a good part of the story. Little ones will be busy searching the pages for hints of further silliness, and they won’t be disappointed. This book has “Read it again!” written all over it.
