Treachery on Tenth Street
Genevieve and Daniel take on another case when a murderer runs rampant through New York targeting models. In a time tinted by the infamous murders of Jack the Ripper, the police are working to prevent mass hysteria. Genevieve’s brother Gavin returns from abroad with opinions on her life and takes an immediate dislike to Daniel. When the investigation hits close to home, the duo must work with Gavin to stop the grisly murders before the killer strikes again and enlist the help of their friend Callie to delve into the modeling world.
Belli creates the feel of the time period through wonderful dialogue and descriptions that help establish a tone that draws gritty elements out of New York in 1889. The writing is beautifully inspired by the time period with details that create lush visuals, such as the glittering ocean stretched on in an endless, nearly black sweep. The plot takes advantage of the time period through the panic inflicted by Jack the Ripper to set an undercurrent of fear as this murder spree runs through the city. Treachery on Tenth Street keeps you on the edge of your seat with a lush writing style that sends you back to the 1800s and a headstrong woman that breaks gender norms of the time.
