Time’s Convert: A Novel
“It begins with absence and desire. It begins with blood and fear. It begins with a discovery of witches.”
During the American Revolution, Marcus is an aspiring surgeon learning his trade on the battlefield. Hiding from his past, he meets chevalier Matthew de Clermont, who offers him a new but darker life through immortality. As Marcus tells his story to Diana, now a formidable witch and wife to Matthew, he impatiently awaits the transformation of his beloved Phoebe to the vampiric life.
In a follow-up to the All Souls trilogy, which started with A Discovery of Witches, Harkness brings Marcus to life from his birth as a wearh to present day. From escaping his mortal father to almost losing his own life, Marcus will awaken to his new life during the French Revolution. Time’s Covert weaves 18th century history with magic and the supernatural and carries readers between the past and the present. This fourth book provides a glimpse of Diana and Matthew’s new life during the present day while filling in the story of Marcus, Matthew’s son from the original three novels.
Chris Hayden has been working at City Book Review since 2012, so that makes him the keeper of knowledge. He manages the office and book reviewers (all 200 of them!), which is no small feat. If you’re looking at the book reviews here, you’re seeing them because he sent the books out for review. Without him, this place would fall apart, because no one else in the office knows how to use the postage machine. Two words: job security.
