Time Lapse Photography, Long Exposure & Other Tricks of Time: From Snapshots to Great Shots
The title of this excellent book is somewhat misleading. Time Lapse Photography, Long Exposures & Other Tricks of Time covers just about everything you need to know about getting professional-quality photos with your digital camera. John Carucci did a formidable job in this extensive trade paperback. Of course, the book is filled with photo illustrations, all great, ranging from half-page to double-spread sizes. The text is equally good — Carucci explains everything clearly, precisely and to the point. He uses short sub-chapters for even easier reading and understanding, starting with equipment and going on with every aspect of photography through the consequent chapters. His main focus is using digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera but he also expands to using a more advanced GoPro, and also Smartphone cameras. The illustrations are superb, explaining technical details and with pointers illustrating many technical features within each photo. The double-page photos labeled Pouring Over the Picture are especially educational. The many tables included are useful for the photographers’ reference. Carucci briefly covers many unusual and difficult technical situations (like making time lapse movies). Every chapter ends with a series of assignments. For dedicated digital photographers, this is an outstanding book and is a must.
