The United States Constitution is written in the language of the times, which isn’t easy to understand, but it’s important that we all do understand it. Khizr Khan makes sure we understand why our Constitution is important. He credits the U.S. Constitution for the stability of our country, making comparisons to an independent Pakistan that hasn’t been as stable. He describes why and how our constitution was written. He explains the Constitution and its amendments, section by section, in a way that a middle school student could understand it, giving extra attention to the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The end of the book includes important cases decided by the Supreme Court, as well as the text of the Constitution and of the Declaration of Independence.

I wish this book had been available to read when I was in school. I learned so much! I didn’t realize there were so many things I didn’t know about the Constitution. I appreciated reading the detailed history, the explanations, and the speech bubbles with the author’s personal comments. The book is thorough. It is not politicized. The author gives examples of ways we all can support our Constitution. I highly recommend this book for everyone, but especially for schools and homeschools.
