The Way Downtown: Adventures in Public Transit
This book is about public transit. The author makes it fun with stories. The Zanies are performers. They use unicycles and the subway. They are going to Great Park to perform. Dr Brody is a scientist. She is carrying some unique creatures in her backpack to deliver to the museum at Great Park. She uses a ferry because she lives on an island. Boris is a guide dog. His owner, Guy, is going to meet a friend at the park. They take a train. Robbie is going to Great Park so he can take pictures of animals he doesn’t see where he lives. He takes a bus. Agent Rybka is a spy. He doesn’t take a straightforward route, to confuse anyone who might be following him. All of the characters are in the last picture of the book. There’s a glossary.
I really like this book. It covers everything. The book wouldn’t be as good without the pictures. Agent Rybka’s story is my favorite. The Zanies are zany! They unicycle to the station! This book is funny, and the illustrations are cute. It’s also educational. I learned about didgeridoos and light-rail transit.
