The Siren Project

What starts as a lucrative job opportunity doing what he loves best (thumbing his nose at society) quickly spirals into a larger than life, total world annihilation exercise for ex-Secret Service agent John Mitchell. Along with his band of merry men, Mouse and Gunter, John has been happily skimming off the top for investors large and small since his untimely dismissal from the Secret Service for – what else? – insubordination. Presented with an opportunity he’s not given the option of refusing, John starts tracking down the origins and devious plans of a rogue ‘black ops’ project. Initially tasked with finding a certain brilliant scientist, John and gang quickly realize they’ve gotten in way over their heads when people start showing up dead and much, much worse than dead. How about a world where all the top leaders are reduced to slobbering, mind-controlled zombies, doing the bidding of one or two completely unscrupulous madmen? Where does the line between free will and doing what’s best for society get blurry?

As a sci-fi geek, I really enjoyed this book. There’s suspense, intrigue, science fiction-y body tanks, and the possibility that two of the characters get it on. The book is rather long, and although I think some details could be scaled back to move the story along, it still kept me engrossed throughout.
