The Penguin who was Cold
Philip Giordano, an Italian author and illustrator, created this lovely book about a penguin who feels out of his element. Milo is always surrounded by ice, frosty temperatures, and freezing cold water. The other penguins aren’t bothered by the cold- but Milo is. He meets a friendly whale who takes him on a journey to a warm tropical island where he never has to feel chilly. He meets many kind birds who create a solution to his temperature issue.
The beautiful geometric illustrations in this story allow the words to become the main focus while maintaining a pleasing aesthetic. Children will observe a creative problem-solving strategy and learn to embrace challenges with a positive attitude. Milo could have made the choice to stay on the tropical island, therefore running away from his problems. Instead, he chooses to face his problems head-on. Adults will enjoy reading this story with children ages four to eight.
