The Nolan Ryan Beef & Barbecue Cookbook: Recipes From A Texas Kitchen
For beef lovers, Nolan Ryan’s cookbook is a true winner and a must. The Nolan Ryan Beef & Barbecue Cookbook is a beautifully produced medium-to-large-format book with many professional food photos showing mouthwatering images. Ryan’s text on beef cattle ranching is fascinating to read and how he built his small cattle business into a sizeable company, based on income from his Texas Rangers Baseball career. Quotes from his family members (mostly part of the business) are also interesting as well as text from his executive chef. The introduction with beef cooking charts, and buying guide are very helpful. Each recipe is nicely laid out on a single page and ingredients are mostly readily available. The recipes are well written, not hard to follow and even novice cook can reproduce most of them. Each recipe gives prep and cooking time (both realistic) and many with very good tips from the author. This is a huge collection of recipes (e.g. ten kinds of burgers) but expect rich foods and enormous Texas-style servings. The preparations are mostly Tex-Mex with some exceptions (prosciutto, gnocchi). At the end some sides, salads and desserts, all Texas style, give you more choices. Index is very good.
