The Neighbors Are Watching
The Neighbors are Watching by Aggie Blum Thompson centers around a group of neighbors and friends. The story stays mainly in present day but a few of the chapters go back ten months before when Autumn, the nanny of a woman living on the block, is shot dead. We meet Caren who is at a neighborhood block party. She wakes up laying on the sidewalk and can’t remember what happened after she left the party. A young trans man named Finn finds her and helps her home. Finn turns out to be Autumn’s best friend. He is there to find answers about Autumn’s death.
As Caren and Finn both do their own investigations, many secrets are revealed, some realistic, and some not so. I enjoyed this book, however, I felt like it wasn’t very suspenseful and the twists kind of fell flat. It’s semi-predictable. None of the characters were particularly likeable which is another reason the book didn’t resonate that well with me. This is still a light read that fans of psychological thrillers will enjoy.
