Archaeologist Ruth Galloway’s mother passed away three years ago. As she goes through some of her belongings, Ruth finds a postcard with a picture of her cottage near Norfolk’s saltmarsh dated 1963. Why would her mother have this? Ruth wasn’t even born then, and her mother always hated her isolated cottage. It’s a mystery that she’d like to solve, but with the arrival of coronavirus, she’s been forced to stay at home and try to teach her university courses via zoom. Luckily Ruth isn’t alone. She has a new neighbor, and her daughter’s father Detective Chief Inspector Nelson is breaking the rules by coming over to get Ruth’s help on a case involving several suspicious suicides.

Nelson isn’t keen on Ruth’s new neighbor Zoe. Since she’s a nurse with a questionable past, he can’t help but wonder if she could somehow be a suspect. However, when Zoe disappears, and Ruth and her daughter go missing as well, Nelson doesn’t know what to think. Will he be able to find them? Elly Griffiths presents a fascinating mystery in The Locked Room, one that pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go until the end.
