The Little Silver Book – Interviewing

D. Neil Berdiev came to the United States in his teens from Turkmenistan. In his home country, jobs were obtained through contacts, families, and friends. It wasn’t long before he found things were done quite differently in the United States. But Berdiev learned the ways in his adopted country and went on to real success and learned a great deal about interviewing along the way. The good news is he has decided to share all this knowledge with job hunters everywhere.

This wonderful little book is divided into five sections: Fundamentals, Before the Interview, During the Interview, After the Interview, and Bonuses. Within each section are a number of very short (most less than two pages) chapters, each with very specific information about a particular skill needed in the course of the interview process. Almost all of the chapters have an action point attached that can help the interviewee polish the skill. Many chapters contain interesting anecdotes from Berdiev’s experience that point out things to watch out for during the interview. There are so many great hints in this book, it really is a must have for anyone looking for a job. Berdiev’s experience is in the commercial banking industry, and if this is the field for you, that is a bonus, but anyone involved in a job hunt in nearly any field of business will find a treasure trove of useful information here.

The writing is lively and accessible and the information presented is absolutely focused and right on point for those who are seeking a job. Berdiev is truly an expert in his field, and he has shared his knowledge in ways that not only are useful and helpful but engaging and interesting to read. This should be mandatory on recommended book lists for college graduates.
