The Library Book
Based on Tom Chapin’s and Michael Mark’s song, The Library Book tells the tale of what fun a true book lover can have in a library.
We follow a young girl home on a rainy day where everything is boring, but she knows where she can play, and she sets off for her library. She comes alive among the books, saying hi to the dictionary, and she finds her favorite chair, and one by one, characters come off the shelves to visit. Winnie the Pooh, Madeline, the Cat in the Hat, and Pinocchio all volunteer to go home with her. But the big crowd gets noisy and, of course, the librarian says, “Shhh! Quiet, please!” So they tiptoe back to the chair.
The text dances across the pages, accenting the song’s beats and rhythms. Readers will have fun identifying book characters.
