The Inhabitants
Nilda Ricci, an artist, and her daughter, Sidney, have just inherited a Victorian mansion from a distant aunt. The mansion was designed by a well-known architect in his later years and features many oddities. Not long after moving in, Nilda meets her neighbor, a handsome chemist who starts making her tonics to boost her creativity. Both Nilda and Sidney begin having strange encounters that make them question reality. The inhabitants of this area, both past and present, may not have the best intentions for Nilda and her daughter.
Victorian mansions that are supposedly haunted are always a classic. Everything you need for a gothic tale is here: a creepy mansion, a kid, ghosts, weird neighbors and an emotional single mom. I thought the author did a great job of blurring the lines, so that, even as the reader, who should have an overview of the situation, it was hard to tell what was real and what wasn’t. The ending almost sets things up for another story, if the author chose to. Overall, a fun read to add to your gothic collection.
