The Hummingbird Sings and Dances: Latin American Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes
This is a charming and unique little book made for children. That being said, this grown-up loved this book and welcomed its addition to my library. It is a collection of Latin American lullabies and nursery rhymes. A cd is included in this volume as a delightful bonus. There is also a download code for the songs. So, this book gives hours of pleasure packed into a little treasure trove. There are nineteen songs included, sung by Grupo Cantaro. The illustrations are vibrant as befitting the culture of the seventeen Latin American countries represented.
The songs and poems are in Spanish with accompanying English translations. There is also a map of the countries of origin. The end of the book gives the poems in full for added reading pleasure. The selections themselves are whimsically delightful with accompanying illustrations of happy roosters, hummingbirds, and flowers. This would also be a wonderful gift for holiday time. You will enjoy spending time reading, learning and loving this little book.
Chris Hayden has been working at City Book Review since 2012, so that makes him the keeper of knowledge. He manages the office and book reviewers (all 200 of them!), which is no small feat. If you’re looking at the book reviews here, you’re seeing them because he sent the books out for review. Without him, this place would fall apart, because no one else in the office knows how to use the postage machine. Two words: job security.
