The Homewreckers: A Novel
The Homewreckers is another fantastic book from Mary Kay Andrews. Hattie Kavanaugh loves working with her father-in-law in renovating historic houses. Unfortunately, her latest venture is a flop and ends up costing way too much money to finish. She feels bad and as she is wallowing in her failure she is approached by a man named Mo who works for a television channel called HPTV. He tells her he wants to create a show called Saving Savannah and she seems like the perfect person to take this on. She’s young, pretty, and a female who knows her way around a toolbox. Hattie immediately turns him down, scoffing at the idea. It’s not until she thinks about it further that she feels it is the only way to pay her father-in-law back for the failed investment.
This book is full of surprises as a mystery over a decade old becomes uncovered as Hattie starts working on her new renovation. With a murder mystery, fake television people, and a challenging renovation on her hands, Hattie really has her hands full. Andrews is a master of creating storylines and meshing them together so that everything falls just right into place. An excellent read!
