The End of Temperance Dare: A Novel
Eleanor Harper is burnt out and afraid after years of writing as a crime reporter. When she finds out Cliffside, a retreat for artists and writers, is in need of a new director, she jumps at the chance for a career change. On her first day there, her predecessor shows her the ropes and then promptly commits suicide. So, this is going to be interesting. Cliffside used to be a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, and it seems some never left. The new group of artists shows up for their fellowship, and it seems like they were chosen for a purpose, even Eleanor herself. But besides the ghosts, it would appear that something even more sinister is at work at Cliffside, and Eleanor will have to discover what it is and if she is brave enough to overcome it.
Do you ever crave a certain type of book to read? I have been wanting to read a mystery involving ghosts and could not find one that was satisfying. Until now. The End of Temperance Dare was exactly the book I had been waiting for. I love stories about haunted old places, and I particularly liked the author’s take on ghosts in this story. There were more than enough creepy moments, mysteries to solve, and even some romance thrown in. If it were possible to give more than five stars, I would. This book was perfect. Every character was brought to life, some so much so that you had no idea they were actually dead! I would absolutely recommend this book. You will probably enjoy it the most if you enjoy stories about hauntings and supernatural plots, but I honestly think anyone would enjoy this book. Now that I have found Wendy Webb, I need to read her other books, and I eagerly anticipate her next story.
