The Corpse Flower
In The Corpse Flower, we meet Heloise Kaldan, a reporter who has just started to receive letters from Anna Kiel, a woman wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of a lawyer three years earlier. Anna has been missing since that night and Sergeant Eric Shäfer was never able to officially solve the case. Heloise and Eric start working together to figure out why Anna is contacting her and why after all this time? While it originally seemed that Anna had no motive for killing the lawyer, they will discover that the reason behind it goes far deeper than they could have imagined and that she might not be done yet.
Part police procedural, part psychological thriller, this book has a little bit of everything. If you enjoy Scandinavian crime stories, you will definitely want to check out the first in this Danish series, now available in English. The plot was completely different than anything I expected, but it was an interesting storyline to follow. The characters were thought-provoking as you try to decide whether or not Anna was right in what she did and does. I hope the author continues to write more in this series and can’t wait for the translations.
