The Blame Game: A Novel
The Blame Game is a book that centers around a young woman named Naomi, a psychologist. Naomi and her husband Leon live in England, although Naomi originates from New York, where her childhood came to an abrupt halt when her father killed her mother. Naomi just wants to help people. We learn about two of her clients, Jacob and Anna, and their current situations. Jacob says his wife Vanessa abuses him and does awful things to him, such as pouring cold water over him if he falls asleep before her. Anna’s husband, Nick, is an alcoholic, and she blames him for the death of their little boy Ben. As Naomi’s world converges with those of her two clients’ the story starts to begin to turn to mush. It’s hard to know if Naomi is out of her mind imagining and forgetting things or if it is the people around her who are trying to punish her in some way. The book was really confusing and convoluted. I appreciate the fact that the author tried to give her readers a really good twist, but there were several holes in the story that just didn’t make sense.
