The Bear and the Little Green Thing
The Bear and the Little Green Thing is a sweet children’s book about an unlikely friendship and symbiotic relationship between a big brown bear and little sapling. A seed falls from the beak of a bird one day and looks like it has fallen into a hill of brown dirt. Surprise! It’s not a hill of brown dirt but the fur of a big fuzzy brown bear. The little sapling realizes it has fallen in the wrong place but then tries to convince the bear that it can help the bear with many things such as keeping it cool by fanning it, keeping the bees away from it, and chatting away to keep the bear company. In turn, the little sapling just needs a warm place to stay until it is swept away by the wind to become a tree.
This book is beautifully illustrated with simple, yet vivid colors that small children will ooh and ahh at. The dialogue is that of the sapling to the bear and is easy for little ears to understand. The story carries themes of love and friendship that lasts forever. This book is perfect for young children aged two to five.
