The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy, Book 1 (The Dragon Heart Legacy, 1)

We rated this book:

Teaching middle school and working two jobs with a difficult mother and absent father has made life rough for Breen. When her mother is out of town and Breen is checking on her house, Breen finds bank statements for over three million dollars, all in Breen’s name, with consistent deposits from her father. This discovery gives Breen the determination to go see Ireland, the birthplace of her father and do her best to find him. She takes her best friend and roommate, Marco, and they spend two lovely weeks visiting. Marco returns to Philadelphia and Breen stays on, only to find out her father belonged to the fey. When Breen crosses over and meets her grandmother, she finds out that there’s more to her father’s absence, and suddenly she must prepare for battle.

While there is romance within the pages of this lengthy fantasy, the focus is more on Breen’s growth and discovery. The dialogue is extensive and sometimes immature, but the read is quick. Vast descriptions of the beauty of Ireland bring it home, even if the plot is slow to build. Hopefully, Breen will come into her inheritance in the sequel to come November of 2021.
