As an avid follower of POW! WOW! Worldwide, I was excited to flip through the pages of The Art of the Mural Volume 1: A Contemporary Global Movement. This is the first in a four-part series that documents artists around the world. The first of the series contains somewhere around four-hundred examples of a global community of artists – some I was familiar with and some that were complete strangers to me, so a thank-you goes out for the introduction.

This hardcover comes with sleeve that easily removes. Muralists are introduced to readers with a biography that is followed by examples of their work. Since lots of street art has a temporary quality, it was nice to see them presented in such a lasting and permanent manner – even though the artworks’ lack of longevity adds to its charm. This is a beautiful collection that would make a lasting impression on anyone that opens it. The photographs lend to the artwork itself – does the mural justice – both in the quality and in the demonstration of the size of the murals on the page. I eagerly await the next collection of the series.
