The Art of Independence Day: Resurgence
While the movie might not be a box office success like the original one twenty years ago, Titan Books knows how to put out beautiful art books and this one is no exception. It has been twenty years since the aliens tried to take over the world and destroyed most of the major cities, but human beings fought back and were able to drive them off; but not before the aliens sent a message back home to send reinforcements. Well now the aliens are back, and they have come in a bigger ship since this time they mean business. Will Earth be able to marshal the resources once more and fight back or will it be to much this time.
Like all movie art books there are quotes from the director, art director, actors, and producers. It is a fascinating insight into how this movie, and also the first one were made. How the first one relied on practical effects, while most of this one was CGI effects. We get to see how they went from concept art stage, and design, to final product. For fans of movie art this is the type of book you love, even if the movie itself is not that good.
After editing at City Book Review for a few years, I took up the duties of editorial assistant, which include assigning books for review, posting reviews to our various sites, and nagging reviewers for things. In my non-nagging time, I’m a gamer, artist, writer, and notorious black thumb/bane of plants. My answer to every book-related question: read Octavia Butler.
