Surf Sharks:The First Ride

Surf Sharks tells of when three sharks, Mavrik, Talon and Hemi, leave “Fin City” to catch the surfboarding contest and encounter three young surf contestants, Rip, Wade and Ozzy. Only Hemi finds himself struggling in a net that had been set out to discourage sharks from entering the surfboarding waters. The three boys spot the struggling shark and jump into the waters to rescue him. They successfully free the shark from the nets, when a huge wave crashes down on them. Rip was tossed by the power water. Mavrik jumps into action and pulls him from danger. Rip soon figures out he can surf the incoming wave on Mavrik’s back. Unfortunately the boy’s surfboards were shattered in the wave. The sharks see their dilemma and offer to act as their surfboards. “With impressive speed, the boys and sharks rode the waves like champs.” The boys—and their sharks—come in first place.

The action-packed illustrations are rendered in bright, bold colors, as one would expect surfers to have. Even though it’s written as a fantasy, readers will learn a bit about the different sharks that inhabit the oceans; a terrific book for readers requiring lots of action.
