Steven Spielberg FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About the Films of Hollywood’s Best-Known Director
Few directors become household names the way that Steven Spielberg has. Over the last four decades, he has conquered the small screen and big screen alike with projects that grip the viewer while evincing nuanced performances from even the youngest members of the film’s cast.
Steven Spielberg FAQ capably highlights the cinematic accomplishments of America’s director, delving into the background of each project to detail Spielberg’s role in bringing the story to fruition. (Including a list of his onscreen cameos was a nice humanizing touch as well.)
The most interesting part of the book is easily the amount of detail on his work in TV, which offers not only intriguing glimpses of the film director’s works to come but insights into the process of building a proper resume. His film and TV careers essentially get equal time, which is awesome, as the balance in other books is massively shifted toward his big-screen output.
It doesn’t fawn over him, but it remains laudatory, which is a nice change of pace from most Spielberg commentary, which seems unduly harsh, as if his massive success means he should be placed under a much harsher microscope than other directors without the public or critical acclaim.
