Sicily, My Sweet: Love Notes to an Island, with Recipes for Cakes, Cookies, Puddings, and Preserves
Sicily, My Sweet is a gorgeous cookbook and reference book for any baker who wants to learn how to make the delicacies enjoyed and passed down by author Victoria Granof and her family. This book includes everything from cookies and pastries to puddings and creams. Almonds, pistachios, and anise are common ingredients in Sicilian baking, and I noticed that many recipes included them. As I looked through the book, I saw many recipes I wanted to try. From chocolate-filled pastry puffs to cannoli to the baked ricotta and tart cherry tarte, everything sounded so delicious.
The photographs of the sweets and ornamental decorations were reminiscent of the 1970s. With mustard gold backdrops and doilies and the use of red, pink, and olive green on the chapter dividers, this book has an Old World feel to it.
For anyone tired of baking the same old American cookies and cupcakes, I recommend this exquisite cookbook to delight your senses and spark that creativity you’re looking for when baking fabulous desserts. And even if you just want to look at it for the pictures, it’s worth it!
