She Effin’ Hates Me is a hilarious look at three generations of Applebaum women over the course of a few days’ homecoming visit by Molly, the youngest of the three. Eighteen year old college freshman Molly has come home to divulge a big secret to her thirty six year old mom Suzanne, and her grandmother, Ava. The two older women are just certain that Molly has followed in her mother’s footsteps and is pregnant, especially when she shows up with Brandon in tow. As the group begins to talk about the present and future, secrets from the past begin to surface, especially when meeting Ava’s new next-door neighbor Buddy, a former friend of the family and best friend to Ava’s now deceased husband.

What results is laugh out loud funny, yet heartbreaking all at the same time. She Effin’ Hates Me is a fast, easy, entertaining read and is a solid four stars. The dialogue and banter between all of the characters is realistic and really makes all of the characters very endearing. I became personally attached to the characters and could recognize my own family members in each of them, which made it even more endearing.
