Shattered Shields
If you are craving adventure but not wanting to watch it on big screen with the recent movies based on books by J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, you might find it in the anthology Shattered Shields. The book has been inspired by the Tolkien and Lewis and traditional war stories. Here one will find stories from the famous, the new, and existing stars, include Larry Correia, David Farland, Seanan McGuire, Glen Cook, Elizabeth Moon and others. These are war stories falling in the gradient between epic fantasy and sword-and-sorcery.
The stories do create opportunities for characters to grow, and there is also some philosophy for the warrior and some ideas about honor are presented. Unfortunately one only gets snippets from some of these stories which don’t always succeed in the world-building department. These stories also do not have a map included and there is not space for the longer stories where war just plays a part. Sadly missing also, is the longer story of these contentious yet beautiful places.
