rekt
rekt by Alex Gonzalez is not a title to be taken lightly, as the story within its pages holds very true to that word and what it may do to you, the reader.
Sammy Dominguez thought he understood the world, even after he paid witness to and played a part in his Uncle’s unfortunate death, and continues to grapple with how to accept it and move on. It helped that he had the perfect girl, in Ellery, who got him, and they had a life planned together. Then the car accident happened. And she was no more. And now his life is spiraling in an endless Coriolis force of despair.
Then he gets introduced to this crazy site, Chinsky, where there are the most messed-up videos imaginable, even though he’s seen his fair share since he was a kid. But this mystery person Haruspx is involved, and he doesn’t know who they are. But the videos show people dying in the most horrific ways, and a multitude of ways. And then he comes across the videos of Ellery, dying in so many ways. He doesn’t know how he can ever come back from this.
rekt truly is a dark spiral of a story, and comes with its own warnings and cautions. The writing is stark and bleak, but the characters feel real. I’ll admit I was unable to make it to the end. The question is whether you will, and whether you will want to?
