This memoir is culled from the author’s diary; it’s a Bridget Jones’s Diary for grown-ups. The author lives in a marriage with a man of great promise. Unfortunately, the promise has dissolved during their unsatisfying marriage. She works on developing a career as a writer while he plays video games and gets stoned. Even the garden is in unrecoverable ruins while the author realizes that there is no longer any relationship between them. Divorce frees her to date and find fulfillment once again. She journeys to Ireland, where her brother is traveling with a famous rock band. There she meets the man of her dreams and begins strategizing how to be hard to get while she is desperate to forge a union with this perfect man. Luckily, the book is well written and a page turner.

She ultimately returns to Ireland determined to have a future with her dream lover. Her quest for a career parallels that of her quest for the perfect man. Her career is based on the fantasy piece for The New Yorker that gains admiration from her group of friends but is not forthcoming. This is a great gift for girlfriends and yourself.
